Stress can be highly detrimental to your well-being. It has negative impacts on the cardiovascular system and digestion, but that’s not all. Stress can also impair your cognitive abilities. Stress hormones affect your body by causing sweating, a rapid heart rate, trembling, and other symptoms, but they also cause changes in the brain that affect people’s mental abilities.

Preparing for exams is always stressful. A little stress is even a good thing, since it prompts the cells in the brain to branch out and connect more effectively. But when you are under constant stress, the effect changes. Instead of feeling energized, you simply feel unsettled or even anxious. And these negative feelings can then impair your memory.

It’s important to learn how to regulate and cope with stress not just mentally, but also physically. There are many ways to do this: music, physical activity, meditation and more.
