Known beach to sand collectors...

Bekannter Strand unter Sandfreunden. Die stellenweise blasige, glasige oder feinkörnig basaltische Matrix wird durch den Wellenschlag der Brandung rasch zerkleinert und verwittert durch das subtropische Klima; grobkörniger Olivin reichert sich kurzzeitig in der Swashzone des Strandes an. Wegen der Sensitivität von Olivin gegenüber chemischer Verwitterung ist dies ein kompositionell höchst ungewöhnlicher Sand. Olivin kommt so gut wie nie in Sandsteinen vor, weil der Olivin während der Diagenese zersetzt wird.
