This sand probably has, like most sands in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, a long story.
Abtragungsprodukte des skandinavischen Schildes (quarzreiche plutonische und metamorphe Gesteine) und
der Mitteleuropas wurden während des Tertiärs in Norddeutschen Stränden gesammelt und aufgearbeitet,
von quartärer Vereisung bedeckt, deformiert und recycelt, in periglazialen Flußläufen und Dünenfeldern
gesammelt, und bei der Flutung der Nor- und Ostsee wiederum in Strände und assoziierte Dünen
inkorporiert.
