Wellcome! This is the wikispace of the project "Understandings of the Rule of Law in Various Legal Systemsof the World".

The project examines different understandings of the Rule of Law and their specific normative implications in various legal systems of the world. We collect brief country reports to illustrate the different understandings of the Rule of Law in reference to the particular legal and constitutional discourse of each country. The reports are complemented by comparative analyses on the Rule of Law within different (legal-) cultural contexts (Additional Texts).

We invite all interested readers to comment on texts and/or to participate in their further development.

The project originated at the Research Center (SFB) 700 "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood: New Modes of Governance?" at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Other Institutions engaged in similar questions are the WZB Rule of Law Center and Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (HiiL).
