Welcome to this WIKI-project!

With this WIKI-project we want to examine different understandings of the Rule of Law and their specific normative implications in various legal systems of the world. We collect brief country reports to illustrate the different understandings of the Rule of Law in reference to the particular legal and constitutional discourse of each country. The reports are complemented by comparative analyses on the Rule of Law within different (legal-) cultural contexts (Additional Texts).

Interested readers may:

2) comment on all the existing texts.

The project is hosted by the Berlin Research Cluster SFB 700 "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood: New Modes of Governance?" at Freie Universitaet.

Previous Work done by others:

A profound study on the specific history and understanding of Democracy and the Rule of Law in nine different countries was composed by Rainer Grote from Max-Planck-Institute for International Public Law (Heidelberg) and published in early 2009 on the account of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung "Demokratie- und Rechtsstaatsförderung in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Einschätzungen aus den Empfängerländern in Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika und Südosteuropa" (KAS report)
