Virus

Vesicular stomatitis Indiana virus, Vesicular stomatitis virus, VS virus, Stomatitis vesicularis virus, VSIV, VSVRS-Virus, Respiratory syncytial virus, HRSV-A2, -B1, -S2

Strain/Type

Genus: VesiculovirusPneumovirus

Host tropism

Horses, mules, donkeys, swine, bovines, South American camelids sheep and goats rarely become infected.

experimental: wide host range, including deer, racoons, bobcats, rodents, bats, and monkeys, also infects humansHumans; however, various animal species can be experimentally infected with RSV including cotton rats, mice, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, marmosets, lambs, and nonhuman primates.

Route of Transmission

Hematophagous insects, sand fly and black fly, also direct contact with infected animals, less common transmission through contaminated feeding, watering or milking equipmentRSV is most likely transmitted through direct contact with infectious secretions (via fomites) and/or large-particle aerosols; however, close contact with infected individuals, or significant exposure of nasal or conjunctival mucosa with contaminated hands is required for transmission. Transmission via small-particle aerosols is less likely.

Zoonosis (transmission between animals and humans): YesNo

Characteristics e.g. sensitizing or toxic effects, replication deficiant, not infectious, attenuated, inactivated (upload relevant documents)

Human-pathogenic (causes diseases in humans).

Footnote z:

The conditions of protection level 3 must be observed during experiments on equids, bovines and pigs. Infected small laboratory animals must be kept insect free.

Occupational health care (according to ArbMedVV)

Optional health care:
In the case of tasks specifically involving contact and tasks involving incidental contact with biological agents classed as Risk Group 2 under the Biological Agents Ordinance (Biostoffverordnung, BioStoffV) or which involve a comparable risk, the employer must offer an optional health care. This does not apply when on account of the risk assessment and on account of the protective measures taken it can be assumed that there is no risk of infection.
An optional health care must also be offered if as a result of the exposure to biological agents
- a serious infectious illness is to be expected and post-exposure prophylatic measures are possible, or
- an infection has resulted.

Vaccination:
