Problem (Windows):

Wenn ich die Konfigurationsdatei ausführe, öffnet sich ein anderes Programm (Firefox, Texteditor, etc...), obwohl ich den Safe Exam Browser installiert habe.

Lösung:

1. Geben Sie unten links im Suchfeld Safe Exam Browser ein. 

2. Rechtsklick auf Safe Exam Browser → Dateispeicherort öffnen → Sie müssten jetzt einen Ordner mit dem Safe Exam Browser sehen.

3. Öffnen Sie ein zweites Fenster und navigieren Sie zu Ihren Downloads. Ziehen Sie die sich dort befindliche Konfigurationsdatei auf den Safe Exam Browser aus dem zuerst geöffneten Ordner. 

4. Dieser sollte nun konfiguriert werden. Er wird Sie bei erfolgreicher Konfiguration informieren. Danach können Sie den Safe Exam Browser normal starten.

Sie starten den Safe Exam Browser ausschließlich über einen Doppelklick auf die heruntergeladene Konfigurationsdatei. Diesen Schritt müssen Sie bei jedem Start durchführen.

Sollten Sie nur den Safe Exam Browser anklicken, startet dieser ohne die benötigten Einstellungen. Sie erhalten dann eine Seite mit dem Hinweis: "Sie haben den Safe Exam Browser (SEB) installiert, aber das Programm ist noch nicht konfiguriert.". In diesem Fall schließen Sie den SEB und starten Sie die Konfigurationsdatei. Der SEB startet dann korrekt und leitet Sie auf unsere Prüfungsplattform.

Offenbar unterbindet manche Anti-Virus-Software bzw. Anti-Malware-Software fälschlicherweise die korrekte Ausführung der Installation des Safe Exam Browsers (sog. False Positives).
Der Fehler ist den Entwicklern des Safe Exam Browsers bereits bekannt (ext. Link) und wird momentan untersucht. Sie sind darüber hinaus bereits mit den Herstellern der Anti-Virus-Software in Kontakt getreten.

1. Schließen Sie bitte alle nicht benötigten Programme.
2. Laden Sie die manuelle Konfigurationsdatei von hier: SebClientSettings.seb herunter
3. Öffnen Sie nun ein Explorer Fenster, indem Sie die Tasten "Windows + E" drücken:

4. Gehen Sie nun zu Ihrem "Downloads"-Ordner:

5. Öffnen Sie nun ein zweites Explorer-Fenster, indem Sie erneut die Tasten "Windows + E" drücken:

6. In das Feld "Dieser PC" geben Sie nun folgenden Text ein: "%AppData%" und bestätigen mit der Enter-Taste

7. Überprüfen Sie, ob sich dort ein Ordner namens "SafeExamBrowser" befindet.
Achtung: Sollte dieser Ordner nicht existieren, legen Sie ihn bitte mittels Klicken von Strg+Shift+N an.

8. Verschieben Sie nun die im "Downloads"-Ordner befindliche Datei "SebClientSettings.seb" in den "SafeExamBrowser"-Ordner:

9. Überprüfen Sie abschließend, ob die Datei im SafeExamBrowser-Ordner liegt:

10. Sie brauchen die Konfigurationsdatei nicht noch einmal auszuführen. Sie können nun direkt den Safe Exam Browser starten. Fertig

Description (Windows only):

When I run the configuration file, another program opens up (Firefox, text editor, etc...) instead of the Safe Exam Browser even though it is installed on my computer.

Solution:

1. Write Safe Exam Browser into the search field in the left bottom corner.

2. Right-click on the Safe Exam Browser → open file location → you should see the Safe Exam Browser icon within a list of other programs on your computer.

3. Open a second explorer window and go to downloads. Click and drag the configuration file onto the Safe Exam Browser icon in the first explorer window.

4. The Safe Exam Browser should now open up and be configured. It will show you a prompt, when the configuration was successful. Then, you can start the Safe Exam Browser and log into your acccount.

You start the Safe Exam Browser exclusively by double-clicking the downloaded configuration file. You must perform this step every time you start the Safe Exam Browser.

If you only click on the Safe Exam Browser, it will start without the required settings. You will then receive a page stating: "You have installed the Safe Exam Browser (SEB), but the program is not yet configured". In this case, close the SEB and start the configuration file. The SEB will then start correctly and redirect you to our exam platform.

Evidently some anti virus software / malware software falsely blocks the correct installation of the Safe Exam Browser (so-called false positive). 
The error is known (ext. Link) to the developers of the Safe Exam Browser and currently investigated. They have also gotten in contact with the providers of anti virus software. 

To install the Safe Exam Browser correctly you need to move the configuration data file in a specific folder. In the workarounds provided below you find instructions on how to proceed (patch script or manual solution, short and detailed version).

1. Close all unnecessary programs.
2. Download the manuel configuration file: SebClientSettings.seb
3. Go to the folder %AppData% and check if a subfolder "SafeExamBrowser" exists.
4. If the subfolder doesn't exists, please create it yourself (Ctrl+Shift+N).
5. Move the downloaded manual configuration file SebClientSettings.seb into the created folder.
