Introduction
"Simon Says" is a teaching idea that engages learners in movement, learning about their hobbies as well as their body parts all at once.
Target group and Time
Students in primary school
Time: 10 min.
Learning objectives
Students practice listening very carefully. Students learn to think about other hobbies, not only about their own – being creative with their bodies.
Instructions to set up the activity
Students should stand on their feet and listen to the person who is "Simon". After several commands students can rotate so different people can be "Simon".
Letting it run
- Gather two or more players.
- One player is designated as the leader or “Simon” and gives commands to the other players.
- “Simon” can give any kind of command related to hobbies and the body: Simon says play the piano. Simon says show me the body part you play soccer with.
- All players must obey "Simon's" command of if the command includes the words “Simon says”.
- If the command does not begin with “Simon says”, the players must not obey it.
- If a player does incorrectly follows a command, that player is eliminated from the game.
- The game ends when only one player is left and is declared the winner.
