Realization

As a learning environment a FU blog was set up that served as a Als Lernumgebung wurde ein FU-Blog aufgesetzt, der als single-point-of-entry für alle Inhalte und Materialien und als Diskussionsforum diente. Für die Lernenden wurden Anleitungen und Hinweise zur Nutzung und zum didaktischen Konzept/zur Idee des Blogs verfasst und zu Beginn der Präsenzveranstaltung kommuniziert. Die Lernenden wurden mit Hilfe von Tutorials in die "Technik" des Bloggens eingeführt und für alle Seminarteilnehmer/innen ein Account im FU-Blogsystem eingerichtet. Das Blog wurde in Form eines Gruppenblogs geführt. Die Studierenden erstelleten dabei Beiträge zu den thematischen Sitzungen, die die Seminardiskussion vorbereiten und vertiefen sollten. Über vordefinierte Kategorien wurden die thematischen Schwerpunkte des Blogs bestimmt und durch "freie" Schlagwörter ergänzt.

Erfahrungen der Lehrenden

Die Nutzung eines Blogs als "Lernumgebung" war für viele Lernenden ungewohnt, wurde jedoch insgesamt gut angenommen. Technische Problem beim Erstellen der Beiträge und im Umgang mit Wordpress gab es kaum. Allerdings wurde von der Möglichkeit Fragen und Feedback über die Kommentarfunktion in die Diskussion einzubringen wenig Gebrauch gemacht. Der Blog wurde zwar gelesen, blieb aber als Diskussionsplattform blass. Hier hätte die Einbindung in die Präsenzveranstaltungen stärker sein müssen. Die Zahl der studentischen Beiträge war nicht so hoch wie sie hätte sein können, weil der Blogbeitrag nur als Leistungsnachweis für die Teilnehmenden eingebunden war und viele daher gar nicht schreiben mussten. Eine Beteiligung aller hätte hier sicherlich das Interesse erhöht. Dennoch hat sich der zusätzliche zeitliche und organisatorische Aufwand für die Betreuung des Blogs gelohnt. Ein zweiter Seminarblog wird derzeit für ein thematisch anders gelagertes Seminar genutzt.

For the learners the guidelines and notes on how to use it as well as on the didactic concept and the idea of the blog were communicated at the beginning of the face-to-face sessions. With the help of tutorials the learners were introduced to the "technique" of blogging and all seminar participants received an account in the FU blog system. The blog was managed as a group blog. The students posted articles on the topics of the sessions which were supposed to prepare for the seminar discussions in-class and deepen the students' knowledge. By pre-defining categories the thematic focus of the blog was set down and supplemented by "freely picked" key words.

Experiences made by the lecturer

The usage of a blog as a "learning environment" was quite unusual for many of the learners, but on the whole is was readily accepted. There were barely any technical problems when posting the articles and when working with Wordpress. However, little use was made of the possibility of posing questions or giving feedback via the comments feature in the discussions themselves. The blog was read, but it remained quite unused as a platform for discussions. Here the interconnection with the face-to-face sessions should have been strengthened. The number of posts by the students was not as high as it could have been as the blog post was the only requirement for the participants and many therefore did not need to write anything. If all had participated then the interest would have definitely increased. Still, the additional time and organizational effort put in for the maintenance of the blog was worth the effort. A second seminar blog is currently being used for another seminar with a different topic.
