Member States may decide not to apply the provisions ofArticles 7, 8, 32 and/or 34 insofar as their application wouldobstruct the performance, in law or in fact, of the obligationsimposed on electricity undertakings in the general economicinterest and insofar as the development of trade would not beaffected to such an extent as would be contrary to the interests ofthe Community. The interests of the Community include, interalia, competition with regard to eligible customers in accordancewith this Directive and Article 86 of the Treaty.
