Introduction

This activity teaches students to use their bodies to act out a scene. It can be used at the beginning of the session as an icebreaker, to help students become comfortable with each other.

Target group and Time

This task is for students from grade 5 and older. It also works well with young adults. Playing the game lasts about 5-10 minutes long.

Learning objectives

At first glance, this task might seem a little too aggressive. However, it does not lead to any violent acts by the students. On the contrary, they usually have more energy after the task than before. The tasks make them more aware of how to use their bodies to show actions on stage.

Instructions to set up the activity

Before starting the game the teacher can do a short physical warm-up with the students. After that, the students name one superpower they know from a movie or something similar.

As a next step, the students make a short movement that symbolizes their superpower. It is important to name the superpower as they act it out.

Now the students form two lines facing each other, so that every student has a partner in front of him/her.

Finally, by using their movements, the students are supposed to "kill" each other. The student opposite to the one using his/her superpower enacts a tragic and emotional death that ends with him/her lying on the floor.

The goal is not a realistic scene, but exaggeration, to help free students of any embarrassment or fear.

Repeat this task a few times, letting the students switch partners.
