Introduction

This game combines elements of charades with the students using prepositions to describe where they stand in relation to each other. They get to perform a forest animal and create a forest landscape.

Target group and Time

The lesson is best suited for children in 4th to 6th grade and takes up about 15 minutes.

Learning objectives

The main objectives is that the children can improve upon their ability to describe where they are in relation to their environment and other beings in their close proximity using spatial terms.

Instructions to set up the activity

  1. Teacher hands out cards with different animals or trees according to the environment chosen for the task. Every student gets one card.
  2. Teacher forms two groups with the same number of children.
  3. Students in one group are asked to tell the others what their card  says without showing the picture. The other group tries to guess.

Letting it run

Once everyone is familiar with their cards, they are asked to come up with a way to perform their animal or tree and form a scene to present to the other group. Now it's time to introduce the prepositions written below. The students are now asked to perform for the other group whilst using the prepositions to describe their. Eventually you could merge the two groups and add different prepositions if you want to continue.
