WELCOME!

Welcome to the Online Learning Platform of the AREACORE Network.

This platform provides information about the different media systems in Arab countries and Germany.

There was a documentary film produced on every country’s media system.

Please find it in the pages of the countries by clicking through the menu at the left. You can watch every film as a whole or choose between the individual chapters that serve your interest.

Every film is split up in several chapters, divided by topics. It is possible, for example, to use the chapters individually in lectures on a specific part of the big topic media systems, like „media history“, „legal framework“, „ownership structure“ or „social media“, or compare different media systems.

The films are provided by the AREACORE members, the program is sponsored by DAAD. They are available for anyone interested in learning more about media systems in the Arab world as well as in Germany. They are especially suitable for university lectures or school classes. Teachers as well as professors or students can benefit from the provided learning material.

There is a comment section on every page. You are very welcome to let us know your criticism, praise or add suggestions.

Feel free to click through the provided films and additiona. learning material.

We hope, you and your university, school or course will benefit from the information!

About AREACORE

The Arab-European Association for Media and Communication Researchers (AREACORE) was founded in 2013 at the end of a workshop hosted by Freie Universität Berlin in cooperation with DAAD Germany.

The association’s goal is to strengthen and expand horizons among Arab and European scholars in the field of communication.

The reasons for founding this association fit into the broader framework of de-westernization attempts, while also allowing for dialogue to take place on an equal footing. The authors invite all interested communication researchers to join the network and build up an Arab-European network of communication studies expertise.

Currently, its institutional partners include Cairo University in Egypt, Université La Manouba in Tunisia, Qatar University, Sana’a University in Yemen, Birzeit University in Palestine, Bayan College in Oman, and the American University in Beirut, Lebanon.
